Default ribbon cutting for this thread!!!!

I have found out I am bi-polar. It relieves me and scares me all to hell. Relief because now i know what is wrong with me and i can fix it or at least try to, with medication. Fear because it was what did in mom. sigh.....

Dragon, bi-polar is what you make of it. I know it is hard but with proper meds and therapy you can do as you wish. I know some bi-polars who are very high functioning and holding very responsible jobs; i.e., doctors, policemen, politians.

It will take a while to find the right combination of meds, but don't give up.

So sorry to hear of your news hun, but like the others above have said - with the correct treatment and medication (and YOUR willpower), you should be able to deal with this as it throws itself at you. It's going to be hard getting used to the whole ''diagnosis'' but don't feel you are alone.

I know I'm new but feel free to PM me if you ever need to vent. You might want to check out sites like http://www.mdf.org.uk/ which have great little communities which you can join as well as posting on this one. There are a few Americans on that site, but I will try and find an American equivalent and PM it to you.

My thoughts are with you x

The bottomless bucket is forever there (((((((((( DragonsRain ))))))))))). Hugs are good for sad times, mad times, glad times, just because times. So feel free to take as needed, or because you just want one or as many as you can. Fill your pockets with them. They weigh zip and fit all.
Wishing you comfort in your ans. ((((( DragonsRain ))))). If you don't see me in here from time to time. Remember always thinking the best for you.

Lightbulb A friend in your company

Dragonrain,

I don't know what type of bipolar u r i.e. fast cycling, manic/manic depressive or depressive/manic depressive etc. However, this dragonfly has been diagnosed as bipolar for 18 almost 19 yrs. I have gone off meds. several times which always gets me into MAJOR debt! and have continually maintained employment since age 16 and I am almost 44 now. As long as you do what the doc says and take your meds. and most importantly I have found; get 8 - 10 hrs of sleep every night you could probably be high funtioning as myself.

My best friends mother-in-law is bipolar also. She does not stick to her meds or what the doc tells her and she has not been able to work. I tell you this so you know how important taking your meds, doing as the doc says and getting into a support group/maintaining a job outside of the home can help you. I am here if you need me.

((((((((( all ))))))))))))),

Remember that no question is a "stupid" question. The only question that may be "stupid" is the one you don't ask. So go on ask all the questions you want of your dr, your health care system, your support groups, it's important to get as much info as possible. Questions asked + Questions answered = Knowledge. Knowlegde is good to have. Take care. Hang in there. Remember we're here. We care.
